Working with redirects

Sometimes you need to move things around, but what happens if one of your users has bookmarked the page you want to move? And what happens if a user comes from a search engine that hasn't updated it's index yet? This CMS allows you to easily redirect the user to correct page.

If you are moving things around using the page editor, simply select the Setup a redirect from the old permalink to the new permalink option, and a redirect will automatically be created.

You can also setup manual redirects:

  1. Click the Advanced menu from the SchwaBar
  2. Select Redirects from the drop down
  3. Enter the URL you want to redirect from into the From field
  4. Enter the URL you want to redirect to in to the To field

You can even redirect off site if you want — simply make sure you include http:// at the front to the URL.

Setting up URLs can also be handy for tracking traffic — if you are running and promotion and you want to know how many people have arrived because of that promotion, you can setup a specific URL for redirects to your index page. If you use a statistics package such as Google Analytics, you just have to monitor that specific URL.

To edit an existing redirect, click the Edit link next to the redirect and an inline editor will appear. Change what you need to change, and click Update.

To delete an existing redirect, click the Delete link next to the redirect.
